The phrase "best prop firm" is misleading, because the right firm depends entirely on how you trade. A scalper firing off forty trades a day cares about spreads and execution; a swing trader holding through the weekend cares about overnight rules and drawdown type; a futures day-trader cares about the platform and the trailing-drawdown mechanic. The job of this site is to cut through the marketing — the "up to 100% split!" banners that say nothing about whether you'll actually get paid — and give you the handful of facts that decide your month.
Before you spend a cent on an evaluation, get genuinely consistent on a demo with the same rules you'll face. The evaluation fee should buy you a funded account, not a lesson. Once you're consistently green, the rest is matching a firm to your style and respecting its rules.
Every firm on PropFirmVector earns a 1–10 score from five weighted pillars. Payout reliability (35%) is the heaviest because it's the one that matters most and the one marketing hides — we request real withdrawals and weight firms with long, clean payout histories above flashy newcomers. Pricing and value (20%) looks at challenge cost relative to funding and reset terms. Rules and fairness (20%) digs into the drawdown model, consistency rules and the hidden "gotchas" in the fine print. Profit split (15%) and platform and support (10%) round it out. We re-check pricing and rules every week, because this industry changes faster than almost any other.
The biggest fork is what you trade. If you trade currency pairs, indices or metals via CFDs, you want a forex prop firm such as Funding Pips, FTMO or FundedNext. These typically charge a one-off challenge fee and offer profit splits up to 90–100%. If you trade CME futures — the E-mini and Micro contracts, energy, metals or agriculture — you want a futures firm like Topstep or Apex, which often run on a monthly subscription and connect to NinjaTrader, Tradovate and TradingView. Our comparison tool lets you line them up on every spec that matters.
Beyond the headline split, weigh the drawdown type (static is far more forgiving than intraday trailing), the daily loss limit and how it's measured, the payout speed and schedule, the spreads or commission, and the strategy rules — weekend holding, EA/automation policy and news-trading restrictions. Two challenges at the same price can have completely different real-world difficulty once you read these. If you only check one thing, check the drawdown type.
Most prop firm "review" sites are affiliate link farms that rank whoever pays the biggest commission. We earn affiliate commissions too — that's how the testing is funded — but it never changes a ranking. We routinely rank firms that pay us nothing above firms that do, we publish the negatives plainly, and when a firm stops paying traders, it drops regardless of any relationship. Our ratings are editorial and based on hands-on testing, and we'll never invent user reviews or payout numbers. That independence is the entire point of the site.
If you're brand new, begin with what a prop firm is, then learn what firms expect from you and how to approach your first challenge. If you already know your style, jump to the reviews, shortlist two or three firms, and settle it in the comparison tool. Whatever you choose, never buy a challenge you couldn't afford to lose, and take your first payout as soon as you're eligible — it's the only proof that matters.
Our current top-rated firms are Funding Pips, FTMO, Topstep, based on payout reliability, pricing, rules and platform quality. See the full ranking and compare them side by side before choosing.
Only when the reviewer actually tests the firms. We run the evaluations, request real payouts and re-check rules monthly, and we rank firms that pay us nothing above firms that do. Treat any review site that won't explain its methodology with caution.
Look for a low entry fee paired with forgiving rules and cheap resets — our cheapest-firms page ranks the lowest-cost challenges. Always apply a discount code, since almost no one should pay list price.
We rate FTMO the most beginner-friendly thanks to its long payout history, forgiving static drawdown and excellent dashboard. Whatever you pick, get consistent on a demo first.
